The National Aquarium introduces Bayley the dolphin!

The votes are in, and the National Aquarium’s newest dolphin has a name! Members of the public cast more than 22,400 votes via text message and at www.wbaltv.com, and Bayley was the clear favorite with 31% of the votes. With the help of the Aquarium’s dolphins, Baltimore City Mayor Sheila Dixon announced the winning name during a live broadcast from the shallow end of the dolphin pool.

Public invited to help name the new dolphin calf!

The presidential election has come and gone, but the National Aquarium still needs your vote! The newest addition to the dolphin colony is now 3 months old and the Aquarium is calling on the public to choose her name. From November 11 – 20 people are invited to vote for their favorite of five names by text messaging or visiting WBALTV.com.

National Aquarium Celebrates Dolphin’s 1st Birthday!

The National Aquarium is celebrating a dolphin birthday! Foster, an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin born at the Aquarium on September 9, 2007, is one year old today. A variety of celebrations will take place this week to help mark this important milestone in the dolphin’s young life.

A tiny addition to the dolphin colony!

It’s a girl! Staff and volunteers at the National Aquarium in Baltimore are excited about a tiny addition to the dolphin colony: At approximately 7 a.m. on Sunday, July 27 Chesapeake, a 16 year old Atlantic bottlenose dolphin, gave birth to a female calf. At birth the calf was approximately 30 lbs and 2-3 feet long. Chesapeake is the daughter of Shiloh. This is Chesapeake’s third calf born at the National Aquarium.

National Aquarium to hold annual Maryland dolphin count

The National Aquarium in Baltimore will lead Maryland’s annual dolphin count on Saturday, July 19th in an effort to determine the state’s dolphin population. Typically held in June, this year’s count has been pushed to July to coincide with the state of Delaware’s count. Volunteers are welcome to participate from 9:00 a.m. until noon.
