National Aquarium Prepares for Dolphin Birth

WE’RE EXPECTING!

Baltimore, February 22, 2010 – The National Aquarium, Baltimore is pleased to announce the pregnancy of an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin, Jade. After months of regular check-ups, ultrasounds and other health assessments, Aquarium experts estimate that Jade will give birth between mid-February and mid-March. The Aquarium’s marine mammal staff and a group of 50 trained volunteers have begun 24-hour observations to monitor the expectant mother for signs of labor as she enters into this final stage of pregnancy.

This spring, area top chefs Jesse Sandlin, Bryan Voltaggio and Jill Snyder will headline the National Aquarium’s third installment of Fresh Thoughts: A Sustainable Seafood Dining Series, which celebrates sustainable seafood choices.

National Aquarium Turns Purple for Ravens

The National Aquarium joins the rest of Baltimore in donning purple this week to celebrate the Baltimore Ravens’ journey through the playoffs! Last night, during a covert effort to paint the town purple, the Ravens’ front office staff left the Aquarium a special logo stamp on the sidewalk near the ticket center. To continue the city-wide show of support, the Aquarium will light all of Pier 3 in purple on Thursday.

National Aquarium Celebrates Successful Dollar Days Weekend

‘Tis the season for family, friends and fish! All three were in abundance last weekend as the National Aquarium celebrated Dollar Days Weekend and welcomed more than 13,000 people with $1 admission price despite the snowy, cold weather. Near-capacity crowds filled the Aquarium on both days, eager to escape the cold, enjoy the tropical temperatures of the Rainforest and see the Aquarium’s newest exhibit, Jellies Invasion. Guests also enjoyed special $1 treats in the Aquarium cafés and had the opportunity to purchase $1 items from the gift shop.
