National Aquarium brings the beach, boardwalk and beyond to Baltimore
Baltimore, MD (May 19, 2008)-
The National Aquarium in Baltimore will celebrate Beyond the Boardwalk, a series of events celebrating ocean life, and sharing ways to protect and restore our local waterways for thousands of animals that call them home. Annually taking place in June, Beyond the Boardwalk features a variety of exciting and interactive programs, games and stories on ways adults and children can be responsible and get involved. This year’s events include:
• June 18: “Island of the Great White Shark”
Marjorie Lynn Bank Lecture Series (Advance registration required.)
• June 20: FREE Family Film- On the Pier!*
7 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Enjoy a FREE outdoor showing of SpongeBob Squarepants: The Movie. Plus, test your ocean health knowledge and win great prizes during the pre-show trivia contest hosted by WMAR-TV. Lawn chairs and blankets recommended. (The movie will begin at 9pm. Rated PG, 90 minutes.)
• June 21 and 22: Festival on the Pier*
10 a.m.- 3 p.m.
- Learn ways to save our blue planet
- Investigate ocean artifacts
- Enjoy live music and face painting
- Purchase classic boardwalk treats
- Meet SpongeBob Squarepants:
Saturday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Sunday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
• June 23-27: FREE Activities on the Pier*
10 a.m.- 3 p.m.
Participate in mock dolphin rescues and meet members of the Aquarium’s Marine Animal Rescue Program.
• June 28: Ft. McHenry Field Day
Help make a difference! Join Aquarium volunteers in restoring habitat for wildlife, removing debris and maintaining the trails at Ft. McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine in Baltimore. Registation required: call 410-659-4274 or email conserve@aqua.org.
*Outdoor activities are weather permitting, check aqua.org for information.
Where: Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Waterfront Park, outside of the National Aquarium in Baltimore.
Cost: All indoor activities are included with the price of admission to the Aquarium. The outdoor activities are free to the general public.
