Baltimore, MD (April 23, 2008)- sun-conure-10026Baltimore has officially gone to the birds. The National Aquarium in Baltimore will celebrate International Migratory Bird Day with special events including appearances by mascot Puffin and the Bird, mascot of the Baltimore Orioles. Guests will learn about the life of migratory birds as they journey between their summer and winter homes through activities included with Aquarium admission.

  • What: Celebrate birds and learn about their unique lifestyle and habitats!
  • Enjoy fun bird games and outdoor activities on Pier 3 (weather permitting.)
  • Create your own backyard “Birdland” with tips from Aquarium experts.
  • Mascot Mania! Meet Aquarium mascot Puffin and the Bird, the Baltimore Orioles’ mascot.
  • Seen and Heard: Get an eye (and an ear) full of amazing Aquarium bird species.
  • Become a bird watcher by decorating your very own pair of binoculars!
  • Bird Art: View contest winning work on display.
  • Bird feeder recipes to give your backyard birds a boost!
  • WIN a birdhouse! Browse one-of-a-kind birdhouses and enter the raffle to win.
  • Design bird masks and chicks to take home with you.

When: Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why: International Migratory Bird Day is celebrated throughout Canada, the U.S., Mexico and Central America and this year will focus on exploring the birds, their journeys, their various habitats and the people who help them.

Did you know that backyard birds help control insect populations without the use of pesticides and chemicals? According to recent census report, over 65 million Americans have given backyard bird feeding a try. The Aquarium will give guests tips and techniques for attracting migratory birds to their very own backyards!
